Consequences of hearing loss.

 In adults
Adults present difficulties especially in their workplace and during social gatherings. Social implications are important, as they tend to isolate and this can lead to personality changes such as irritability, frustration, low self-esteem, poor concentration, etc. High frequencies tend to be more affected than the low ones; therefore, they may have difficulty understanding a conversation in noisy situations. Work implications are serious, as many are still in their productive years and their jobs may be at risk.

In the elderly population, auditory deprivation contributes to the deterioration of cognitive and communicative functions. Therefore, timely amplification is very important.
